Gianlorenzo Blengini, the head coach of Italy men’s national team, sent the preliminary list of players to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for the 2018 Nations League.

Blengini sent the 26-man list of Italy to the FIVB for the inaugural edition of the Nations League that will be reduced to 21 names on May 15. What is obvious at first sight, not counting the players who struggle with injuries, is that Diatec Trentino opposite Luca Vettori was left out of the squad.

SETTERS: Simone Giannelli (Diatec Trentino), Riccardo Sbertoli (Revivre Milano), Michele Baranowicz (Wixo LPR Piacenza), Luca Spirito (Calzedonia Verona).

MIDDLE BLOCKERS: Davide Candellaro (Cucine Lube Civitanova), Daniele Mazzone (Azimut Modena), Enrico Cester (Cucine Lube Civitanova), Enrico Diamantini (Bunge Ravenna), Simone Anzani (Sir Safety Conad Perugia), Alberto Polo (Kioene Padova), Fabio Ricci (Sir Safety Conad Perugia).

ATTACKERS (outside hitters and opposites): Luigi Randazzo (Kioene Padova), Simone Parodi (Wixo LPR Piacenza), Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Civitanova), Filippo Lanza (Diatec Trentino), Gabriele Maruotti (Taiwan Excellence Latina), Oleg Antonov (Ziraat Ankara), Giacomo Raffaelli (Bunge Ravenna); Ivan Zaytsev (Sir Safety Conad Perugia), Giulio Sabbi (Azimut Modena), Gabriele Nelli (Kioene Padova), Andrea Argenta (Azimut Modena).

LIBEROS: Salvatore Rossini (Azimut Modena), Fabio Balaso (Kioene Padova), Massimo Colaci (Sir Safety Conad Perugia), Nicola Pesaresi (Calzedonia Verona).

He didn't play in the regular season, so this is not a surprise decision.

@brazilvolleygirl Vettori played in the regular season, supercoppa, champions league, italian cup and the playoffs. He just had a bad season in Trentino. Please stop spreading fake news!

Re: @rivers it seems Vettori himself asked not to be called this time.

Vetori did not have a good season. He looks very weak. Italy does not need him as they have the beast called Zaytsev. And they have Sabbi and the promising Nelli.

CEV abolished the technical timeouts!

in PlusLiga there are no technical time-outs and thanks to that the games are more interesting to watch, probably because the flow of the game is not disturbed (if only they eliminated 10-minute breaks for commercials after 2 sets it would be perfect...) Reply

TRANSFER EXPLOSION: Zaytsev in Modena – “The most important thanks is for you, Lollo”

Re: @suisse Agree, I was thinking either Modena or Trentino for Zaytsev as an opposite. Modena has to get one strong outside spiker beside Urnaut and one strong middle blocker if they want to compete with Lube and Perugia.
Trentino has to find some great opposite (Djuric if he is healthy) in order to become competitive. Lanza and Kovacevic are not as strong as Juantorena/Leal or Leon/Rusell. If Rusell move to Trentino, and I am not sure why would he since next season is time for Perugia to get some international trophies unless Trentino makes him offer he can't refuse. But then Perugia is without second outside spiker.
Sole went to Verona, which is a surprise. If he came back toTrento, him and Lisinac would make great middle blocker duo.
