MEDITERRANEAN GAMES W: Slovenia, Turkey and Spain qualified to quarterfinals; first win for France

In the new competition day of the XVIII Mediterranean Games, Slovenia celebrated the second win and qualified to the next stage of the tournament while France played their first match in Pool C.


Today, Slovenia defeated Portugal with 3-0 (25-20, 25-1, 25-21); Saša Planinšec was the top scorer with 14 points followed by Pia Blažič 11 and Iza Mlakar 10. 

In the second match of the day, France scored their first win on the tournament. They outplayed Albania in straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-19) who suffered their second defeat in the Pool.

In the derby of the Pool B, Turkey outplayed Spain with 3-1 (26-24, 26-28, 25-19, 25-21) and took the top position. Those two teams have qualified to the quarterfinals of the competition and for now, they joined Slovenia and Greece in the next stage. Tugba Senoglu was the top scorer with 17 points followed by Saliha Sahin15 points while Maria Segura Pallares scored 15 points and Lucrecia Castellano12 points for Spain. 


*The formula of the competition is simple; the first two teams from all four groups will qualify to the quarterfinals. Women’s will play their ¼ Final matches on June 28 and teams from Groups A will be crossed with teams from Group B while teams from Group C and D will face in the matches for semifinals. The semifinals are scheduled for June 30 while the Final and match for the bronze medal for July 1.
